Otranto

Otranto historic name is Hydruntum, its origin is mysterious and full of legends ("The Castle of Otranto" of Horace Walpole). It's told that the town was founded in the Noè's era or by Ercole that choose it after the murder of the giant Leuternino; someone else asserts that Cretans created Otranto when they reached its costs and decided to establish there because of its spring waters plenty. It is sure that in 1480 it was conquered by Turks which in that occasion decapitated 800 men of which bones are in the Otranto's cathedral.
